Mommy and Me Fun

Great activities to explore with your toddler or preschooler.



Nature Walks for Mommy (or Daddy) and Me. Meets at Wolf River Nature Area on Germantown Greenway the third Tuesday of the month from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Toddler/preschool-aged children & parent participate in a naturalist/educator-led story time, hike, and themed activity. $10/family/session. My First Book Club. Meets at the Children’s Museum of Memphis (CMOM) on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Children ages 2-4 explore the world through story time, crafts, and a snack. Free with admission. 458-2678.


Caterpillar Club. Meets at Memphis Botanic Garden on Tuesday or Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. October 11/12 & 25/26. Children 5 and under take part in stories, crafts, and garden exploration. Semester fee: $60/child with adult for 6-classes. 636-4122.


Mini Masters: Tree Huggers. Meets at Dixon Gallery and Gardens on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:15 a.m. This parent-child workshop designed for children ages 2-4 features a story time, hands-on art activity, and snack. $5/child. Reservations. 761-5250.


Wild Lunch at Lichterman. Meets at the Nature Center each week at noon. Watch the Backyard Wildlife Center’s animal keepers feed the animals. Free with admission. 767-7322 x121.


Beginner Skate Classes. Meets at Cordova Skating Center on Tuesdays from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. Skate lessons for all ages. $10/class. Includes admission and skates. 755-0221.



Tot Art. Meets at CMOM on Thursdays at 10 a.m. Children ages 1-4 explore different kinds of art. Free with admission. 458-2678.



Fridays At The Avenue: Screen on the Green. Meets at Central Park in The Avenue Carriage Crossing Mall on select Fridays. Oct. 7: Tangled (PG) at 6:35 p.m. Oct. 21: Monsters vs. Aliens (PG) at 6 p.m. Bring a picnic and enjoy a movie under the stars. Free. 854-8240. 



Peanut Butter and Jam. Music education program takes place at Germantown Performing Arts Centre on a select Saturday at 9:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. Introduces children ages 8 and under to a wide variety of musical instruments and styles.

Beginner Skate Classes. Meets at EastEnd Skating Center on Saturdays,10 a.m. to noon. Skate lessons for ages 10 and under. $6/class. Includes admission and skates. 363-7785.


Magic Carpet Ride. A world music series happens at Buckman Arts Center at St. Mary’s School on a select Saturday at 10 a.m. Oct. 29: Watoto de’ Afrika. Children ages 2+ explore musical traditions, visual arts, and stories from around the world. $5/child with adult. 537-1483.


Weekly Programs

Kindermusik: Our Time. Meets once a week at various times and locations around town. This semester-long parent/child program designed for ages 18 months to 3 years focuses on music and movement.
