What's Happening for Halloween

From Zoo Boo to Playhouse's costume sale, Broad Avenue's Art Walk and more, the days leading up to Halloween are brimming with family fun.

19 • Friday

Le Bonheur Zoo Boo opens. Memphis Zoo. Through October 28. Oct. 19 & 20, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 26, 27, & 28, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Come in costumes and enjoy candy stations, the straw maze, Dracula’s Disco, and a visit from prehistoric animals on a Haunted Hayride. $15. Cedar Hill Farm. 8 Love Road, Hernando, MS. Open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, 10-5, Sunday noon-5 p.m. Pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay rides, plus kids can pick a pumpkin out of the patch. $8.50/per person.

Costume Shop Yard Sale. Circuit Playhouse, 51 S. Cooper. 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Features previously worn costumes, perfect for vintage dress-up or just in time for Halloween.

8th Annual Harvest Festival. Agricenter Farmers Market. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Features Bluegrass music, carnival games, hay rides, moon walk, petting zoo, pumpkin painting contest, and popcorn. Free. 757-7777.

Fall Farm Festival. Maple Grove Farm in Collierville. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Activities include petting farm, hay ride, moon bounce, zip-line, pumpkin patch, rock wall, face painting, DJ, games, and prizes. $10. Scare on the Square. Main Street Collierville. 3:30 pm. Go trick or treating at the shops at Historic Town Square in Collierville. Free. 853-1666.

Halloween Spooktacular. St. Mary's Cathedral Church. Trunk or Treat at 5:30pm, magic show at 5:45 p.m., Pipe Organ Spooktacular (spooky music for kids) at 6:30 p.m. Free.

Festival of Fun and Fright. Bob Hailey Athletic Complex in Germantown. Also on Saturday. Germantown Community Theatre presents Fairy Tale Trail from 6:30-8 p.m. Houston High School presents Trail of Terror from 7-9 p.m. Come in costume and enjoy a hayride, carnival games, moon bounce, and concessions. $3/person. 757-7375.

Halloween Hike. Memphis Botanic Garden. 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Features treat and activity stations, pumpkin and bat crafts, a spider maze, a bone dig, and a haystack for jumping. $8/person. Hayrides: $1. Call 636-4131 to register.

Halloween Hollow. Heartsong Church. 2-5 p.m. Children are invited to go trick-or-treating in the 30 acre wooded campus where they will be greeted by costumed members of the church family. Event includes carnival games, inflatables, train rides, pet costume contest, adult costume contest, hay wagon rides, and a bonfire with s’mores. Free. Concessions available. Fall Harvest Festival at the Farm. Bobby Lanier Farm Park in Germantown. Noon until 4 p.m. Celebrate the fall season with a picnic food fresh from the garden, live music, hayrides, pumpkin themed games in the pumpkin patch, scarecrow contest judging, corn shucking, apple cider in the orchard, and a kids tractor pull. Chatterbox Audio Theater Live Halloween Broadcast. 91.1 WKNO-FM, Memphis. 7-8 p.m. Children ages 10 and up are invited to tune in to 91.1 WKNO-FM for an hour of terrifying tales presented by the actors, musicians, and sound effects artists of Chatterbox Audio Theater.
