Stuff I’d Bake For Valentine’s Day
February 10th, 2010 by Jane Schneider
Sweets are a given on Valentine’s Day. That’s why more 48 million pounds of chocolates will fly off store shelves this week. Such confections are de rigueur on this day dedicated to love.
So Mom, you need to have a few heart-shaped goodies up your sleeve. For starters, check out our own personal chef, Liz Phillips. If you’re a regular reader of the Family Table, then you know Liz usually banishes suspicious foods like Jell-o from the pantry. But bless her healthy heart, this month, she threw caution to the wind to whip up this delightful strawberry cheesecake

The Jell-o might make it an alarming shade of red, but relax. The recipe is so simple, your little ones can help. Her crew gave this an enthusiastic thumbs up! To read more thoughts on food from Liz, visit her yummy blog: peachesandbuttermilk.blogspot.com/
What kid can resist gooey Rice Krispy bars? Midwestern blogger Cheryl at aprettycoollife.com uses a heart-shaped cookie cutter, then dips it in almond bark and dusts with nonpareils for a pretty finish. Yum.

Finally, this cookie recipe from Kathy at www.cookingontheside.com/valentine-heart-cookies caught our eye. The flavor will remind you of animal crackers (think nutmeg and mace) with food coloring to jazz them up.

Of course, ready-made slice-and-bake cookie dough is perfect in a pinch. Simply pick up a heart-shaped cookie cutter, along with some icing and sprinkles. Such home-baked goodness will make your sweethearts swoon. How better to say “I love you?”
