Introducing our August Cover Kid: Camryn Evans
July 29th, 2008 by Jane Schneider
One of the best parts of my job is getting to speak with you, our readers. It’s always great to hear your comments about the magazine — and it has happened to me in some pretty unexpected places over the years: the Northwest Airline terminal at Memphis International (I’d just returned home from a trip), holiday shopping at Toys R Us, I even met a reader once while I was on vacation. She came up and introduced herself as my family ate lunch together in Highlands, North Carolina.
What a small world! But I love knowing our magazine connects with you. And that you want to tell me as much.
I also get to connect with parents thanks to our Cover Kids contest (it takes place in the spring).
Which brings me to the August issue. The pictures you see here are of Camryn Evans, our 7- to 10-year-old Cover Kid winner.
Camryn is an energetic 9-year-old who loves to model. Her parents, Daryl and Whitney, tell me when their daughter was just 5, she’d ask, “Mommy, when can I have my picture taken?” Camryn is one of those kids who loves being on stage or in front of the camera — and it shows. So Whitney has worked with a number of talent agencies in town trying to give her daughter a chance to get more experience. That might lead to a story later this year, Whitey says it definitely helps to know the ins and outs of the modeling business.
Here is a behind-the-scenes of our cover photo shoot. Camryn did a great job. Here she’s working with our photographer, Larry Kuzneiwski.

Our newly redesigned website also features Cover Kid winner George Metcalf. Thanks for making us look so good!
